Protocols
TCP/IP - The development of the internet was based on the standards of TCP/IP four layer model. The TCP/IP protocol suite is made up of multiple of other protocols which are in common with TCP/IP.
- FTP (File Transfer Protocol)- This protocol is used for file exchanging and storage.
- HTTP (Hypertext Transfer Protocol) - This protocol is used for the distribution of webpages.
- POP3 (Post Office Protocol 3) - This protocol is used to collect mail from a ISP.
- SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol) - This protocol is used to send emails.com.
- DNS (Domain Name Systems) - This protocol is used to match easy-to-remember domains typed in by the user, for example, www.youtube.com, to addresses like 85.145.23.59.
- UDP (User Datagram Protocol) - This protocol is used for connectionless systems.
- ICMP (Internet Control Messaging) - This protocol is used by multiple of types of management applications, like ping, which is used to test communications.
- DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration) - This protocol is used to issues IP addresses to devices, when they log into a network.
- ARP (Address Resolution Protocol) - This protocol is used for converting IP Addresses to Mac Addresses.
- RARP (Reverse Address Resolution Protocol) - This protocol is used to assign IP Addresses to Mac Addresses.
