Wired/WIRELESS Devices
All devices are properly known as End Devices, this is because they are the final receiving object on a network. These devices can also be called Data terminal equipment, in other words, DTEs. There are many different communication methods. With a mobile device, they have such communication methods of Cellular network, Bluetooth, Wireless etc... Each system always has an end device, for example, a computer with a network card or a portable device with a wireless adapter. These End devices or DTEs communicate to Data circuiting-terminating equipment, which are basically your network systems which provide internet to your device. An example of DCE equipment is a wireless router, which a computer would connect to, or a Bluetooth dongle connected to your pc, which is synchronised to your mobile's network.
With the introduction of internet and smartphones lead to the introduction of cellular internet, which allows a mobile device to receive internet where ever in the world where there is a satellite connection. There has been many different generations of cellular internet, 3G, 3.5G, 3.75G and the current generation 4G. The speeds have improved dramatically however, cellular internet isn't yet as fast as cable internet in a building. In some areas there is no cellular network, in places like the country side however all smartphones still have the option to use the internet, through GPRS (general packet radio service), which is a lot slower and older. Current day wireless networks use 802.11 standard, which defines the current set speeds and the range of network communication.
